Genesis - Explained and Applied 01

The Beginning

/ Download epub / Download mobi / Read on Kingcomments
Genesis 1 - 50 / MGdK /
Size: 145x210 - 332 pag. / kb

In the book of Genesis, we find the beginning of all things, such as the creation of heaven and earth, the institution of marriage and family, the first sin and, as a result, death and the offering for sin. The coming into being of God we will seek in vain in it. God has no beginning. He is the eternal God Who "in the beginning was" (Jn 1:1).
The way God personally reveals Himself to people in this book is impressive. He speaks confidentially with them, as a man does with his friends. Thus He comes to Adam in the coolness of the evening, He tells Noah His intention about the Flood and He visits Abraham and speaks to him. The book ends with the history of Joseph. In it, we have an impressive picture of the rejection of Christ and His ultimate government over the world.

Exodus has two subjects:
1. The redemption of the people of Israel from slavery (Exodus 1-24);
2. The dwelling place of God, the tabernacle, among His people (Exodus 25-40).
There are still a few important events in this book. We see that the law is given (Exodus 20) as the foundation of God’s relationship with His people. We also see that the priesthood (Exodus 28-29) is given on the basis of the grace of God for His people. Through the priesthood, it is possible to maintain the relationship between the people and God if the people fail in the holiness appropriate to God’s dwelling among His people.

Leviticus 1 - 27 / MGdK /
Size: 145x210 - 236 pag. / 766 kb

The word Leviticus is used in the Septuagint – the Greek translation of the Old Testament by the ‘seventy’ – as a summary of the subject of this book. It is meant to express that this book is about the rituals and ceremonies for which the tribe of Levi is set apart. Yet this book is not so much about the service of the Levites as about the service of the priests, although of course they are also of the tribe of Levi.
The book of Leviticus brings us into the sanctuary, into the heart of God. In what the sanctuary represents, we see what is in God’s heart. There God wants to have fellowship with us. Leviticus is the book of fellowship. Fellowship is ‘partnership’, having the same part. Our fellowship is with the Father and the Son (1Jn 1:3). With the Father we share what we have seen of the Son. With the Son we share what we may know of the Father.

In the book of Numbers we see God's people in the wilderness in the presence of enemies. They are a people of warriors to defend the sanctuary. Numbers describes the journey of the people through the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. God provided His people with all kinds of aids for that journey; these are also described. We also see how the people behave on the journey. Because since Sinai the law is the foundation of God's dealings with them, we see how God punishes directly when the people transgress and fail. At the same time we also see that God is a God of grace, who does not leave His people.

Joshua 1 - 24 / MGdK /

The first part of the book of Joshua describes the struggle that the people of Israel must fight to conquer and take possession of the land of Canaan. In the second part, it is mentioned how the land is divided among the tribes.
The Christian also has a struggle to fight, but that is a spiritual struggle. He has also received blessings to enjoy. The devil and his angels want to try to prevent the Christian from also enjoying those blessings. That gives rise to struggle. At the end of the letter to the Ephesians is spoken about that struggle and how victory can be achieved (Eph 6:10-20).

The great theme in this book is not the person Samuel, but that of which he is the forerunner and which was introduced by him: the kingship. The ultimate goal is the establishment of the kingdom of God in Him to Whom the prophetic ministry, of which Samuel is the representative, points: the Lord Jesus Christ. The greatest act of all that we find of Samuel in this book is the anointing of David. In David we see the picture of the true David, the great Son of David, the Anointed, Christ, Who is always before God's attention.

Another aspect of David is also discussed at length in this book, and that is David as a father. Its description contains many lessons for fathers and parents.

We also see that God sends prophets to make His people return to Him. In 1 Kings this is especially Elijah. The performance of this man of God is impressive. Elijah is an example of how each of us can be a man of God in a time of decline, in which we also live.

The beginning of 2 Kings is primarily an account of the grace of God through Elisha to an apostate nation. Despite that grace, the people slip away from God completely. Consequently, the book ends with the carrying away of the ten tribes by the king of Assyria and the two tribes by the king of Babylon.

He does so from the perspective of the grace of God. In 1 Chronicles, David is the main character. We see how he is particularly committed to God's house, a subject that runs like a thread through Chronicles. David's preparations for the building of the temple are described in detail. There are many spiritual lessons to be learned from this for what is now God's house: the church of the living God

Compared to the other Gospels, we find few words of the Lord in this Gospel, but we read more about His work and service. The first letter to the Corinthians deals with the church and your place in it. When we look at it outwardly, the church is no longer a unity. There are numerous groups and churches. This letter answers the great question: ‘Where can I find the place where the church gathers?’ But you will not find the exact mention of a place where that happens.
In this letter you will find a wide variety of topics. Most of them are about how the church should function in practice, or the way everything should happen in the church. And because you are a member of the church of God, all that is written in this letter is also very important for you.
In this book I would like to examine with you what this apostolic letter says about the gathering of believers, for they form the local church.

In this letter Paul writes about justification through faith. This he also does in his letter to the Romans. The difference is that he writes this letter to believers who were inclined to rob this tremendous truth of its power and blessing by introducing again the law in their lives. Whoever does this, affects the perfection of the work of Christ. He demonstrates in an unquestionable way how faith and law exclude each other completely as the means to be justified before God. Therefore the letter to the Galatians is a very impressive and essential complement to the letter to the Romans.

The letter to the Philippians is a description of a Christian’s pilgrimage through the wilderness of this world. However, a Christian is not concerned with the things around him on the earth, but with Christ in heaven. His journey is towards Him. He gives up anything that prevents him from achieving this goal.

The intent of the letter to the Colossians is that you receive teachings from the things mentioned in it and begin to reflect on them. The result, no doubt, is that your heart and your eyes will be filled with the glory of the Lord Jesus. I can assure you that eventually your soul will be overflowing with gratitude, joy and confidence.

The letter to Titus deals with the maintenance of order in the local churches of God as seen in the daily believer-to-believer relationships and their conduct in the world.
