This study on the abandonment on the cross treats it in the light of Leviticus chapter 16, which deals with the great Day of Atonement. The description 'Glory meeting Glory' is in agreement with what happened on Calvary, and shows both the glory of God the Father and the glory of the Son who in perfect Manhood revealed God's glory in the scene of the utmost shame and suffering. It is a mystery, but we cannot say that the Son was abandoned at that time by the Father. Scripture tells us that a holy and righteous God had to hide His face from the Man Christ Jesus during the three hours of darkness, but also that He was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father (Rom. 6:4).
